Although there are numerous Paul Bunyan statues scattered across America,the hulking woodsman in Bangor is a standout among them. Its sculptor favored a more detailed and jolly portrayal of the legend. Over the years the statue has been outfitted with a giant fez (for a Shriners convention) and a huge bandana (for a Willie Nelson concert). Locals and tourists alike love to take pictures with this statue.
The Duck of Justice
A stuffed duck named The Duck of Justice is making a name for itself on the Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page. The duck is a worldwide hit,and people visit it from all around the world. The mascot is a reminder that police officers have a sense of humor and can lighten the mood in a sometimes serious job.
The Facebook detective has retired. Tim Cotton,59,will continue posting about the duck as he pursues a writing career. He hopes that his efforts are a modernized version of what reporters at the Bangor Daily News did decades ago in their Night Police Beat column.

A shopper’s paradise,the Bangor Farmers Market at Abbot Square is open May through Thanksgiving. The market offers organic eggs,local vegetables and greens (including blueberries),apples,berries,and other fruits and berries. It also sells locally roasted coffee and homemade lotions.

Maine Discovery Museum
This place is one of the most popular attractions around Bangor. Fun and creativity are the main focus. The museum’s exhibits are known for their wonder-inspiring nature and innovative learning methods.
The museum was founded as the Eastern Maine Children’s Museum in 1997 and opened in February 2001 in the former Freese’s Department Store building in downtown Bangor. The museum has grown to be the largest New England children’s museum,north of Boston.
In 2012,the museum became a “Let’s Move!” institution in support of the First Lady’s efforts to fight childhood obesity. The museum offers many hands-on activities in addition to its exhibitions.
